Overview of the lesson
Scripture: Matthew 11:28 + Luke 10:41-42 + Mark 1:35 + Psalm 46:10 + John 15:5
This week, we learned how to make room for Jesus during the busyness of Christmas.
Matthew 11:28 reminds us that Jesus invites us to come to Him when we feel tired, stressed, or overwhelmed. True rest is not simply having an empty schedule. Real rest comes from trusting Jesus with everything we are carrying.
Luke 10:41-42 shows us that Martha became so focused on everything that needed to be done that she missed the opportunity to sit with Jesus. We can do the same thing during Christmas. Gifts, parties, decorations, traditions, and plans are not bad, but they can become distractions when they leave no room for Jesus.
Mark 1:35 teaches us that Jesus intentionally stepped away from the noise and busyness to spend time with His Father. If Jesus made time to pray, we should also intentionally create space to be with God.
Psalm 46:10 reminds us to slow down, be still, and recognize that God is near. It can be difficult to focus on Jesus when we are constantly scrolling, shopping, traveling, watching, or rushing to the next event.
John 15:5 teaches us that we must remain connected to Jesus. Apart from Him, we cannot become who God created us to be. Jesus should not be another item on our Christmas checklist. He is the reason we celebrate.
This Christmas, ask yourself what may be distracting you from Jesus. Choose a specific time each day to slow down and spend time with Him through prayer, Scripture, and worship.
Do not become so busy celebrating Christmas that you miss Christ. Slow down long enough to notice that God is near.
Bottom Line: Make room for Jesus this Christmas.
