overview of the lesson
Scripture: Deuteronomy 31:6 + 2 Timothy 1:7 + Romans 8:35,37 + Psalm 91:1-2,14-16
This week, we learned what to remember when we feel lonely, disconnected, or afraid.
Deuteronomy 31:6 reminds us that God personally goes before us. People may leave, friendships may change, and circumstances may feel uncertain, but God will never fail or abandon us. Our feelings may change, but God’s presence does not.
2 Timothy 1:7 teaches us that fear does not come from God. Through the Holy Spirit, God gives us power, love, and self-control. Courage does not mean we never feel afraid. It means choosing to trust and obey God even when fear is present.
Romans 8:35,37 reminds us that nothing we face can separate us from the love of Jesus. Trouble, rejection, loneliness, and fear do not mean God has stopped loving us. His love is greater than anything we may face.
Psalm 91:1-2,14-16 teaches us to make God our safe place. Social media, games, television, sleep, and staying busy may distract us temporarily, but they cannot give us lasting peace. Real rest comes when we slow down, enter God’s presence, and trust Him with what we are carrying.
Talk honestly with God about what you are feeling, and reach out to a parent, youth leader, counselor, teacher, or trusted adult. Asking for help does not mean your faith is weak. You were never meant to walk through everything alone.
You may feel lonely, but God is near. You may feel afraid, but God is greater.
Bottom Line: God is with us when we feel lonely and afraid.
