Overview of the lesson
Scripture: 1 Kings 19:1–17 + Isaiah 41:10 + Psalm 91:1–2
This week, we learned about doubting God’s protection when fear becomes overwhelming. In 1 Kings 19, Elijah had just witnessed God send fire from heaven on Mount Carmel. Shortly after, Queen Jezebel threatened his life, and Elijah became afraid, ran away, and felt like giving up.
Even though Elijah had just seen God’s power, fear caused him to forget God’s faithfulness. But God did not shame or abandon him. He allowed Elijah to rest, gave him food and water, and provided direction for what to do next.
This story reminds us that fear can make us forget God’s faithfulness, God cares for us when we doubt, and His presence is our true protection.
When we feel afraid or unsure about the future, we do not have to fight every battle alone. We can remember how God has cared for us before, bring our fears honestly to Him, and pursue His presence as our refuge.
Bottom Line: God sees us, cares for us, and remains with us, even when we doubt His protection.
